2021+ Sportsman 450 and 570 Winch and Protection Installation

Before installing any accessories on your Polaris ATV, park the vehicle on a flat level surface. Set the vehicle in park, set the parking brake, and remove the key. Warning: Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris vehicle.

To install a front bumper (0:11), Pro HD Winch (2:51), rear bumper (12:24) and body armor (13:30) on your model year 2021 and newer Sportsman 450 or 570, follow the steps below.

FRONT BUMPER INSTALLATION

To install the front bumper on your model year 2021 and newer Sportsman 450 or 570, follow these steps:

1. With a pliers, pull out the two push rivets securing the front trim panel.

2. Tilt the cover out and remove from the vehicle.

3. Press down on the tab securing the radiator access panel, and remove the panel.

4. Lay the bumper on its front side, and align the holes on the front of the mounting bracket with the back of the bumper.

5. Insert the carriage bolts through the back of the bracket and into the bumper, and loosely install the provided nuts.

6. Align the assembly to the front of the vehicle while sliding the bracket into the bottom mounting location.

7. Align the holes, and install the two fasteners from the front side of the bumper into the support bracket a 13mm socket. 

8. Install the nuts on back side with a 13mm socket. Do not fully tighten at this time.

9. With a T40 TORX® socket, install the four fasteners from the outside of the bracket to secure it to the frame.

10. Once the bracket is secured, use a 13mm socket and 13mm wrench to counter-hold the upper front fasteners and torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 

11. Counter-hold the lower front fasteners and torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm) with a T40 TORX® socket. 

12. Torque the bumper mounting fasteners with a T40 TORX® socket to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm) on each side. 

13. Reinstall the radiator access panel by aligning the bottom tabs pressing in on the top to engage the latch.

PRO HD WINCH INSTALLATION
The Pro HD Winch is part number 2884834. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.

To install the Pro HD Winch on your Sportsman 450 or 570, follow these steps: 

1. Release the rubber latch on both sides, and open the front rack.

2. With a 10mm socket and wrench, remove the nut from the black negative battery cable, and disconnect the cable.

3. Pull out the two push rivets securing the winch cover with a pliers. 

4. Pull the cover away, and set aside.

5. Remove and retain the two upper bolts from the lower front bumper cover with a 13mm socket. 

6. Remove and retain the two lower bolts from the cover with a T27 TORX® socket. 

7. Once the fasteners are removed, pull the cover and radiator screen out together, and set aside.

8. Moving to the winch, ensure the wire routing and connections are correct, and adjust if needed.  

9. Ensure the cable ties are fully tightened as well.

10. Rest the red and black wires on top of the winch, and move the winch onto the radiator mount.

11. Ensure all wires are free to move and are not pinched between the vehicle chassis and winch assembly.

12. Install the two bottom fasteners from the outside of the mount into each side to secure the winch. Installing the lower fasteners first will aid in aligning the upper fasteners. On models with strut front suspension, use the front set of holes for mounting the winch.

13. Install the top fasteners on each side. 

14. Once the mount fasteners are installed, use a T40 TORX® socket to torque the fasteners to 20 ft-lbs. (27 Nm).

15. Run the red and black harness up the vehicle frame behind the radiator and through the opening in the body panel on the negative side of the battery.

16. Attach the harness to the hole in the frame about halfway between the winch and body panel, using the double cable tie attached to the harness.

17. Continue to clip the harness to the hole next to the opening in the body panel.

18. Place the control box with the longer wires in the upper position on the right-hand side of the vehicle, behind the radiator.

19. Use a cable tie to secure it to the winch harness that goes up to the battery.

20. Route the longest white female control box connector behind the radiator hose, and connect it to the Autostop fairlead.  

21. Connect the white male connector to the Y harness.

22. Connect the white female connector to the contactor.

23. Run the power wires for the box up through the opening in the body panel near the battery area.

24. Connect the orange wire to the orange wire on the vehicle’s main harness.  

25. Place the wireless remote box onto the cab support bracket.

26. Secure the box by inserting cable ties through the mounting holes and looping around the bracket.

27. Bundle the cables, and attach them to the chassis support with a cable tie.

28. Continue by connecting the white electrical connector to the Y harness.

29. If necessary, cut the cable tie securing the main wire harness connector.

30. Remove the harness cap.

31. Move the wires behind the radiator, and connect the Y harness to the main harness.

32. Run the wires for the box up through the opening in the body panel near the battery area.

33. Connect the orange wire to the orange wire on the vehicle’s main harness.  

34. Route the wires of the winch controls through the notch in the mount.

35. Place the front and rear mounts on the handlebar in the area between the main controls and brake mount. 

36. Secure in place with the two provided fasteners. 

37. Once secure, ensure the notch on the mount is sitting above the brake mount. 

38. With a T25 TORX® socket, torque the fasteners to 24 in-lbs (2.7 Nm).

39. Remove the cap on the main harness under the handlebar with a flathead screwdriver. 

40. Connect the switch connector to the harness.

41. Select an area for the wireless winch remote, and verify no items are at risk of damage from the mounting screws.

42. Align the control mount and use a T25 TORX® socket to drill two screws into the holder and through the desired panel to secure. 

43. Ensure there are no exposed wires or terminals, and secure all loose wires away from moving parts and heat sources.

44. Install the positive battery bolt through the winch wire, and connect all positive wires to the positive battery terminal. Reinstall the nut. Torque to 60 in-lbs (6 Nm). 

45. Install the negative battery bolt through the winch wire, and connect all black negative wires to the negative battery terminal. Reinstall the nut. Torque the fastener to 60 in-lbs (6 Nm). 

46. Close the front rack, and attach the two rubber latches.

47. Route the winch through the bumper cover, and firmly press the bumper into place.

48. Install the upper fasteners and lower fasteners.

49. Torque the lower fasteners until fully seated and the upper fasteners to 79 in-lbs (9 Nm). 

50. If installing a front bumper, loosen the four fasteners holding the winch mounting bracket to the frame. This will aid in fastener alignment.

51. Install the bottom fasteners from inside the winch mount.

52. Align the front bumper to the winch.

53. Install the upper fasteners through the front of the bumper, and install the nuts.

54. Once the bumper is secured, use a 13mm socket and 13mm wrench to counter-hold the upper fasteners and torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 

55. Use a 13mm socket and 13mm wrench to counter-hold the lower front fasteners and torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 

56. Torque the winch-mounting fasteners with a T40 TORX® socket to 20 ft-lbs. (27 Nm) on each side. 

57. Reinstall the radiator access panel by aligning the bottom tabs pressing in on the top to engage the latch.

58. Before continuing, turn the vehicle key ON and test the winch for proper operation. 

59. Verify the Autostop feature is functioning properly with the hand controls and the winch remote. The winch should not allow the rope to be reeled in once the puck had come within a close proximity or made contact with the fairlead.

REAR BUMPER INSTALLATION

To install the rear bumper on your model year 2021 and newer Sportsman 450 or 570, follow these steps:

1. Slide the bumper weld-mounts inside the upper-frame tubes with the fasteners facing inward.

2. Mount the bumper into place, and align the mounting holes.

3. With a 13mm socket, install the upper bumper fasteners from the outside without fully tightening. 

4. Slide the bumper weld-mounts against the inside top of the hitch plate, fastener-side down.

5. Install the fasteners from the top to secure the bottom of the bumper.

6. Torque all fasteners to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 

BODY ARMOR INSTALLATION

To install the body armor kit on your model year 2021 and newer Sportsman 450 or 570, follow these steps:

1. With 10mm and T40 TORX® sockets, counter-hold and remove the outermost nut underneath the rear rack tube support.

2. With 11mm and T27 TORX® sockets, counter-hold the nuts under the footwell, and remove and discard the fasteners.

3. Align the bracket mount with the holes on the underside of the footwell, and loosely install the fasteners at the front of the footwell with 11mm and T25 TORX® sockets. 

4. Slide the rear guard weld into the bracket mount.

5. Align the bracket on the guard weld with the rear rack tube assembly, and loosely install the previously removed nut.

6. Insert the two rear footwell tube fasteners from the outside-in, and loosely install the nuts.

7. Loosely install the two rear footwell screws and nuts.

8. Slide the front guard weld into the bracket mount.

9. Once the guard is in place, loosely install the front footwell tube fasteners and nuts.

10. Align the front guard weld with the bumper and, with a 5mm Allen socket, install the bumper screw through the front bumper and into the front weld.

11. With 11mm and T25 TORX® sockets, torque the footwell mounting bracket fasteners to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm). 

12. With a 5mm Allen socket, torque the bumper socket head screw to 7 ft-lbs (10 Nm). 

13. With 10mm and T40 TORX® sockets, torque the rear rack tube support nut to 35 in-lbs (4 Nm). 

14. With a 13mm socket and wrench, torque the footwell tube fasteners to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 

15. Once complete, repeat this entire process on the other side of the vehicle.
