To remove and install the battery on your RANGER XD 1500, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat, level surface and in PARK.

2. Turn the key switch OFF and remove the key.

3. Lift the bench seat and remove the battery lid under the rear most passenger seat to access the battery.

4. Disconnect the black (negative) battery cable first, to prevent arcing with a 10mm socket. Set the cable aside.

5. Disconnect the red (positive) cable with a 10mm socket and set aside.

6. Remove the battery hold-down strap with a 10mm socket.

7. Lift the battery out of the vehicle. Be careful not to tip a flooded battery sideways, which could spill electrolyte. Note: If electrolyte spills, immediately wash it off with a solution of one tablespoon baking soda and one cup of water to prevent damage to the vehicle.

8. If reinstalling the battery, ensure that the battery is fully charged and free of any debris to prevent damage. Follow the instructions in the Battery Charging section of your Owner's Manual before installing the battery. A new battery is part number 4014132-P.

9. Clean any dirt or debris from the battery tray.

10. Place the battery in the battery holder.

11. Connect and tighten the red (positive) cable first, and torque to 49 in-lbs (5.5 Nm).

12. Connect and tighten the black (negative) cable, and torque to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm).

13. Install the battery hold-down strap and tighten the screws.

14. Verify the cables are secure and properly routed.

15. Coat the terminals with dielectric grease or petroleum jelly.

16. Reinstall the battery compartment cover and lower the bench seat.

17. Turn the key ON to verify the battery has been connected properly. Note: When the battery is disconnected, the vehicle’s clock may need to be reset.
