For optimal performance, always use Polaris-recommended fluids as described in your Owner’s Manual.
To change the rear gearcase fluid on your RANGER XD 1500, follow these steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface and ensure it is in PARK.
2. If needed, remove the rear tire on the passenger side and support the vehicle securely with a jackstand.
3. Place a drain pan under the drain plug on the bottom right-hand side. Tip: Placing a rag in the bottom of the drain pan will help prevent the splashing of fluid.
4. Clean the area around the fill plug on the back of the transmission
5. Remove the fill plug with a 8mm Allen socket and set it aside.
6. Move underneath the vehicle and locate the drain plug through the hole in the skid plate.
7. Clean the area around the drain plug.
8. Remove the drain plug with a 8mm Allen socket and allow the fluid to drain completely.
9. Clean any dirt or debris from the fill and drain plugs.
10. Inspect the O-rings on both plugs and replace if necessary. A new fill plug is part number 3234755. A new drain plug is part number 3234756.
11. Reinstall the drain plug, and torque to 10-14 ft-lbs (13.6-19 Nm).
12. Fill the transmission through the fill plug hole with Angle Drive Fluid until it reaches the bottom threads and begins to spill out. The capacity is 20.3 oz (600 mL). One quart of Angle Drive Fluid is part number 2878068.
13. Reinstall the transmission fill plug, and torque to 10-14 ft-lbs (13.6-19 Nm).
14. Clean any residual fluid off the vehicle and inspect for leaks.
15. Dispose of the used fluid properly at your local recycling center.
