The air filter and airbox on your model year 2012 or newer Polaris ATV can be found underneath the seat.
To remove the seat on a Scrambler model or most Sportsman models from model year 2016 and older:
1. Grasp one side of the seat near the rear edge.
2. Pull upward abruptly to disengage the under-seat fasteners.
3. Remove the seat.
Once the seat is removed, you can access the air filter.
To change the air filter on a Sportsman 400, Sportsman 500, Sportsman 800, Hawkeye, Outlaw, Trail Boss or Trail Blazer:
1. Remove the seat. Remove the airbox cover clips. Remove the airbox cover (1).
2. Remove the filter.
3. Remove the fabric-type pre-filter from the main filter. Wash the pre-filter in soapy water and then rinse and let dry.
4. Reinstall the pre-filter over the main filter. Install a new main filter if needed.
5. Reinstall the air filter into the airbox.
6. Reinstall the airbox cover and the seat.
To change the air filter on a Sportsman 550:
1. Remove the seat, the airbox cover strap and remove the airbox cover.
2. Remove the filter.
3. Remove the fabric-type pre-filter from the main filter. Wash the pre-filter in soapy water and then rinse and let dry.
4. Reinstall the pre-filter over the main filter. Install at new main filter if needed.
5. Reinstall the filter into the airbox.
6. Reinstall the airbox cover and the seat.
